Why We Are Taking This Step

This summer gave us a glimpse of what happens when people are intentionally brought together for friendship, faith, recreation and belonging. Our Connect Clubs and community gatherings showed us the need for a permanent place designed around those relationships.

Connect Clubs + Community

Ohana’s Hope gives our Connect Clubs a permanent home — a place for young adults, people with special needs, foster and adoptive families, volunteers and friends to gather consistently. The barn, farm, gardens and outdoor spaces allow relationships to grow beyond a single event or program.
The vision is a place for all to connect to each other and to God — as one Ohana.

Farm & Animal Ministry

The farm is not simply part of the scenery at Ohana's Hope. It is part of the ministry.

Animals, gardens and meaningful work create opportunities for people of all abilities to discover purpose and develop greater independence. Community members can participate in feeding and caring for animals, maintaining gardens, harvesting produce, preparing spaces for events, and learning practical job and life skills.

Equine Therapy + Comfort Animals

We envision partnering with Second Chance Ranch for equine therapy and therapeutic horse experiences, while also incorporating comfort animals and smaller farm animals that provide connection, responsibility and meaningful interaction.

Independence + Job Skills

The farmstead creates a natural training environment for the special-needs community: animal care, gardening, grounds work, hospitality, event setup, food preparation and other practical responsibilities. The goal is to help community members move from simply attending a program to having a role, developing skills and knowing they are needed.

More Than a Gathering Space

Ohana’s Barn is envisioned for worship and church gatherings, Connect Clubs, a potential special-needs day program, vocational and job training, classes and life-skills development, animal-related programs and events, meals, Bible studies, recreation and larger community gatherings. The interior will stay simple and flexible: exposed structure, durable floors, practical lighting and movable furniture so the building can change throughout the week as the ministry changes.

Ohana’s Hope is designed to bring communities together thattoo often experience life separately.

monthly worship gatherings

A monthly worship gathering where people of all abilities can connect with Jesus and one another. Everyone is welcome, valued, and invited to participate.

Easter at the farm

Families, individuals with special needs, foster and adoptive families, staff, volunteers and neighbors gathering for worship, celebration, animals, food and community.

Christmas at Ohana’s Hope

The barn filled with people, the farm decorated for Christmas, animals outside, shared meals and worship — creating a place where families who may otherwise feel isolated can experience genuine belonging.

Annual trunk or Treat

A fun, inclusive fall celebration where our special needs members and young adults aging out of foster care can dress up in their favorite costumes, enjoy decorated trunks, games, activities, and even a possible pumpkin patch.

Throughout the year

Connect Clubs, farm activities, potential day programming, job training, Bible studies, worship gatherings and special community events continue the same purpose: helping people build friendships, discover purpose and experience God together.
We aren't just building a barn or buying a farm. We are creating a place where people of all abilities can belong, discover purpose, develop independence, build friendships, serve one another, and encounter God.

Our vision has been deeply encouraged by Benjamin's Hope in Holland, Michigan. Their Christ-centered farmstead model demonstrates how barns, gardens, animals, programs, friendship and worship can work together to create genuine belonging for people of all abilities.

Ohana’s Hope will be its own Arizona expression — built around Ohana’s existing relationships, Connect Clubs, special-needs community, foster/adoptive families and faith-centered mission.

The purpose is connection, confidence, responsibility and meaningful interaction—not simply having horses on the property.

About Ohana’s Hope

Ohana’s Hope is a ministry of Friends of Ohana, an Arizona 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, created to bring hope, belonging, purpose, and community to children and adults who too often experience isolation or barriers to opportunity.

Friends of Ohana has a heart for vulnerable children and young adults, including youth transitioning out of foster care. Through Ohana’s Hope, that mission is expanding into a permanent place where individuals with disabilities, former foster youth, families, volunteers, and the community can gather, grow, serve, worship, and experience life together.

At the center of it all is our faith in Jesus and the belief that every person is known, valued, loved, and created with purpose.

Who We Serve

Ohana’s Hope is being created for individuals with disabilities, families impacted by disability, and young adults aging out of foster care.

Across Arizona, more than 59,000 individuals with developmental disabilities and their families are impacted, while more than 800 young people age out of foster care each year.
